Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has seized 40 gold bars at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Wednesday morning.
Zahid Mia has been arrested in connection with the smuggling.
The bars weighing 4.64kg and worth about Tk 19 million, was found under an aircraft seat that landed at the airport from Abu Dhabi at 6.43am.
Officials said the gold was recovered based on a specific intelligence input.
An APBn team, led by Inspector Kohinur Ahmed and Assistant Sub-Inspector Khaled Mia, have conducted the seizure.
“Zahid Mia was active in smuggling as he travelled quiet a few times to Abu Dhabi in last one month,” said Sylhet-7 APBn police Superintendent Joynal Abedin to Bangla Tribune.
Customs police is preparing to file a case over the smuggling.
