It’s believed that the imam of a village in Jamalpur had a case of theft slapped against him when he lodged a complaint after reportedly being a victim of a terrorist attack.
This incident, which is believed to have been masterminded by an influential local group, has triggered deep resentment among the locals.
Imam Salimullah, the man in question, says: “there is a rift with the mosque secretary, Zillu Kha, over government donations of the madrasa.”
As a result, Zillu Kha’s people beat me up and broke my hand, he alleged.
When police refused to take an assault case, Salimullah lodged a case at the Jamalpur court on 9 September and the judge issued an arrest warrant against Zillu Kha and three others.
To cover up the attack on the imam, Zillu Kha lodged a theft case at the local police station against the Imam’s two sons.
The OC took the case and sent it to the court.
OC of the local police station, Rafiqul Islam, says: “Salimullah did not come to lodge a case.”
Zillu Kha could not be contacted over phone.
