Cattle being imported from MyanmarA large number of cattle is being imported from Myanmar, ahead of Eid-ul Azha, adding to the government’s revenue. This year, importers are buying more cows than buffalos; the animals are coming via Teknaf’s Shah Porir Dip Corridor.
A total of 677 cattle reached the corridor on Saturday, while 272 the previous day. Teknaf’s revenue station officer, Md. Jahangir Hossain, said: “in August, 4276 cattle were imported and the government earned Tk. 2.138 million in revenue; meanwhile, 6106 cattle were imported in July.”
But, the importers are having to spend extra money since there are no bank or custom offices at Shar Porir Dip, he added.
Teknaf camp in charge of RAB-1, Lt. Mirza Shahed Mahtab, said: “we are ensuring security of the traders, bringing cattle through the border, while maintaining vigilance to prevent smuggling of contraband drugs and illegal weapons.
