BNP’s Ariful Haque Chowdhury after the vote counting of 132 centres out of the 134 on Jul 30.BNP’s Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been elected as the mayor of Sylhet for a second term on Saturday after voting in two polling stations, which were postponed on Jul 30.
Ariful bagged 92,593 votes while Awami League’s Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran polled 86,397.
After the counting on Jul 30, Ariful had taken a lead of 4,626 votes in 132 centres out of 134 against.
Voting of the two centres at Gazi Burhanuddin Garam Dewan Government Primary School and Hobinandi Government Primary School with a total of 4,787 voters were suspended due to irregularities
Returning Officer Alimuzzaman told the media that Ariful polled 2,097 votes in the two centres while the ruling party candidate got 527 and another 117 votes were scrapped.
