A general view of Power Division office in Dhaka. GOOGLE MAPSPower Division has no idea where vehicles used in different projects will end up. Without a clear guideline, 380 cars of various projects are being used by different sections of the power department.
To look into the usage of the cars, the parliamentary committee for power, energy and mineral resources has formed a sub-committee, which has been asked to submit a report on Tuesday (Nov 19).
The committee has also asked for a report on the misuse of vehicles so steps can be taken against culpable officials.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also reportedly expressed her displeasure over the matter.
Reportedly, 380 cars of 54 projects are being used, including more than 150 motorcycles, some 100 pick-ups and around 100 jeeps.
The sub-committee with Md Abu Zaheer as convener, has been asked to submit a report on possible misuse of vehicles by Jan 30, 2020.
The main committee president Shahiduzzaman Sarkar adds: “We have asked for five issues to be investigated: if the cars of completed projects are licensed or not, will the cars be returned or used after project completion, if they are used then is it being done with the government’s knowledge or not, which officials have authorized the usage of the cars and the future of such vehicles.”
