India airport removes United Airways plane from parking bayAuthorities at Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda airport in Indian state of Chhattisgarh have removed an aircraft of United Airways, which have been occupying one of its six bays for nearly three years.
Officials said they decided to move the aircraft to an unused space after failing to recover the arrear parking fees.
On Friday, the aircraft was removed from the parking area to the west side of the airport.
Raipur airport’s Manager Rakesh Sahay told Bangla Tribune that United Airways owe them more than six million rupees in parking fees. But despite several communications, they did not pay it or took efforts to remove the plane.
On Aug 7 2015, a United Airways aircraft flying from Dhaka to Muscat made an emergency landing at Raipur after one of its engines failed with 165 passengers on board. For three year, the McDonnell Douglas DC 63 occupied one of the six parking bays at Chhattisgarh’s only functioning airport.
The drill was conducted by the Airports Authority of India with assistance from Air India in the presence of United Airways (Bangladesh) Ltd representatives — Assistant Engineer Enayet Hossain and its Kolkata-based General Manager Shubhangkar Banerjee.
No comments were available from United Airways.
