Power department to train workers for a skilled force

Keeping Mujib birth centenary year in focus, 700,000 people will be trained in the next five years. In 2019 and 2020, the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) will train 20,700 persons.

Training will be arranged for industrial electrics, the maintenance of solar pumps, freelancing wiring inspection etc.

The training is for 70 working hours and, in the next five years, there is a plan to turn 5,250 unemployed young men and women into skilled electricians.

Managing Director of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), Shahid Sarwar, says: “This will create jobs and skilled workers, who will be able to work overseas and earn in foreign currency.”

In the fiscal year, 2018-19, DESCO trained 1,504 persons while Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) will train 750 persons in the next five years.

Managing Director of DPDC, Bikash Dewan, says: “We give training every year but in the celebration of Mujib year, we will train big batches in the next five years.”
