Banks suffer from lack of credibility: GovernorA lack of credibility over the banks has grown among the people and good governance is the only way to address it, says Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir.
Banks have to take the necessary measures and put the skilled persons on perfect place, he said.
Speaking at the ‘Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing’ conference in the city on Saturday, the BB boss said, “Recently, the import has risen in comparison with export, but why?”
“The central bank has been keeping an eye on it,” Kabir said.
Mobile banking triggers the risk of money laundering, according to the Bangladesh Bank chief.
“Different measures taken by the BB has mostly controlled it,” Kabir said before advising the people concerned to take more cautionary actions.
Speaking at the function, Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hasan said, “the government’s measures have helped money laundering fall down and less money deposit in the Swiss banks is its example.”
Bangladesh has moved to the 82nd position in money laundering, going up from its previous 52nd position, Hasan said.
