The information ministry has written to PRAN, one the leading privately-held businesses in the country, to stop airing the Bangladeshi commercials on foreign television channels for the local viewers.
On Sunday (Jul 21), TV-2 section of the ministry sent a letter to PRAN, senior information officer of the ministry Mir Akram Uddin told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (Jul 23).
The letter said that no commercials for the Bangladeshi viewers can be aired on foreign television channels as per the subsection-19 (13) of the Cable Television Network Law, 2006 and this is a punishable offense as per the section 28 of the law.
PRAN is airing commercials on foreign television channels, which is a clear violation of the law, it reads.
The government has already warned the cable operators on the matter and is conducting mobile courts against.
Given that, PRAN has been asked to stop airing the advertisements immediately, the letter adds.
