Responding to a query from ruling MP Haji Md Selim, he said the eight commercial and specialised banks wrote off Tk 11.98 billion interest against 6,163 loan accounts between January and December 2018.
Among the amount, Sonali Bank wrote off an interest of about Tk 737.3 million against 14 loans, Janata Bank, Tk 538.1 million against 2,473 loans, Agrani Bank, Tk 4.94 billion against 2,008 loans, Rupali Bank, Tk 1.34 billion against 203 loans, Krishi Bank, Tk 4.35 billion against 66 loans, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Tk 43.5 million against 1,380 loans, and BASIC Bank, Tk 16.9 million against 19 loans.
Bangladesh Development Bank has not written off any interest against loans last year.
