Home-bound passengers rush to airport on Eid day.Hazrat Shahjalal Airport domestic terminal has experienced rush as city-dwellers are leaving Dhaka on Eid day to enjoy the holiday with their near and dear ones.
The airlines are operating extra flights in addition to regular ones as the demand for tickets goes high due short and hassle-free journey.
Those who did not buy advance ticket are also enquiring about it at the ticket counters in the airport.
It was lucky day for Mohsin Ali, a Chittagong-bound passenger, who was looking for ticket and got it at late hour.
“I will travel with my parents. I want to travel by air as it is a long journey by bus. I am lucky that I got tickets even at late hour,” he said.
Home-bound passengers rush to airport on Eid day.Four airlines operate domestic flights from Dhaka to Chottagram, Sylhet, Jessore, Cox’s Bazar, Barishal, Rajshahi and Syedpur routes.
Except Barishal, Novoair operates on six other routes and its officials said they have 12 scheduled flights on Eid day.
Till 4pm, 11 flights have left Dhaka with no empty seat but the return flights experienced less demand, they said.
Regent Airways generally operates on four routes but on Eid day it operates four flights only on Chottagram and Cox’s Bazar routes.
All the flights have substantial number of passengers, sources at the airlines said.
National flag carrier Biman has flights on all the routes with an occupancy rate of 80 to 90 per cent while US Bangla has four flights carrying 50 percent passengers of its capacity, sources at the airlines said.
