File photoBangladesh has touched a new high in electricity generation.
The power plants produced 12,539-megawatt electricity on Tuesday (May 21) – a new record, according to the Power Development Board (PDB).
“It was the highest power generation in the country’s history,” PDB spokesperson Saiful Hasan Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune.
There was no power cut in the day of record production, Chowdhury claimed.
The PDB authority marked adequate gas supply as the key to producing power with all the oil-run power plants being operative.
On May 7 this year, the production was 12,214MW.
The number of power plants increased to 108 from 27 when the ruling Awami League government came into power in 2009.
More plants hiked Bangladesh’s power generation capacity to 20,000MW from 3,000MW, according to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
