Stocks end higher driven by large-cap scrips

File photo shows a general view of the Dhaka Stock Exchange building.Stocks witnessed upward trend on Tuesday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities despite lower transactions.

The rising major sectors were financial institutions, insurance, textile and engineering. A total of 173 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher activities.

The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 26.39 points up at 5,631.29. The Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 9.92 points up at 1,292.93. But, the blue-chip DS30 closed the day with 3.22 points down at 2,014.68. The volume of shares decreased to 8.72 crore from Monday’s 8.82 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at DSE fell to Taka 437.80 crore from Monday’s Taka 476.68 crore.

At the DSE, price of 346 securities out of the day’s 233 traded issues closed higher against 81 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were BD Finance, BNICL, Apollo Isphat, Matin Spinning and Federal Insurance. The major losing issues were Beach Hatchery, United Insurance, Glaxo SmithKline, United Finance and Bata Shoes.

BATBC topped the turnover leaders followed by UPGDCL, BRAC Bank, Dutch Bangla and Square Pharma.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 63.90 points up at 17,209.15.

At the CSE, 234 issues were traded. Of those, 136 closed higher and 64 closed lower while 42.34 lakh shares worth Taka 12.45 crore changed hands.
