At a meeting, the power secretary, Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, has called this a grave injustice.
A ministry official says that whenever clients come to take power more than five megawatt, they are told to construct supply lines from the sub-station to their own homes.
But for any non-government organisations, constructing lines is almost impossible.
Reportedly, DPDC constructs sub-stations for affluent clients.
DPDC is also accused of deceptively occupying land from government organisations.
When the government has repeatedly talked of quick power connections, DPDC walks the opposite path.
Reportedly, DPDC has acquired land from Rupayan Housing, Borak Real Estate, Genetic Development Company and others.
Some clients allege that when they applied for a connection, DPDC asked them to take line from sub-stations. Since lines are costly, clients are asked to construct a sub-station.
Meanwhile, MD of DPDC, Bikash Dewan, says, “The accusations are not correct; sometimes the demand of the client is more than 50 kilowatt.”
Sometimes, the demand of the clients cannot be met and they offer to build sub-stations, he said.
“In the past, some sub-stations were constructed free of cost which does not take place anymore.”
A few days ago, we talked to Ispahani; their demand is 30 MW and DPDC does not have the sub-station to give so much power, he said and added, “At that time, they proposed to give land at a nominal price on which to construct a sub-station.”
