This Facebook status of a woman living in the capital illustrates the agony of the city dwellers; as the onset of the holy Ramadan this year brings off with severe gas crises in various parts of Dhaka.
The city dwellers are also facing the new phenomena of being deprived from gas supplies during Ramadan events. At some parts of the capital, cooking is being troubled due to the inadequate gas supply during the Sahri and Iftar also, inflicting untold sufferings on the people.
Petrobangla, the government-owned national oil company, announced before the Ramadan that it would stop supplying gas to CNG stations from 5.00 pm to 11.00 pm during the Ramadan.
This declaration resulted in a long queue of the vehicle in front of the gasoline stations during the night. The remaining gas then was funneled to produce electricity.
Turning the Petrobangla’s intended solution to gas crisis during Ramadan into a bigger problem as the day-time crisis now has extended to night.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company sources said it can manage 1,700 million cubic feet gas instead of demanded volume of 2000 cubic feet.
Petrobangla supplies 2,800 cubic feet of gas against a need of 3,800.
There is no sign of efforts to reduce the people’s immense suffering created due to the ever-increasing shortages of gas supply.
“The crisis may overturn only after the LNG supply is available,” said Mir Moshiur Rahman, managing director to Titas Gas in a reply.
Recently, an inhabitant of the Central Road area lettered asking the reason of unavailable gas supply to the local office of Titas; but the problem was not resolved.
A Titas gas official said seeking anonymity that everyday they get a number of complaints which go in vain.
“We are helpless. Unless new transmission is available, the crisis would not be solved”, the official also added.
