Uber, the world's largest on-demand ridesharing company, has launched its operations in Sylhet with one of its most popular products UberMOTO, says a press release.
Bangladesh is currently the largest Moto market in the Uber universe and the Sylhet launch is a reiteration of the popularity of the product.
In November 2018 Uber announced, that with more than 100,000 driver partners, nearly 2,500 weekly sign ups to drive on Uber, Bangladesh is expected to contribute 25 percent of Uber’s growth in the region in 2019.
On average, one can find an Uber in less than 5 minutes in both Dhaka and Chittagong and 13 percent of Uber’s rider base now use Uber almost 6 times a week.
Prabhjeet Singh, Head of Cities, Uber, South Asia, said, “We continue to be overwhelmed by the love we receive from riders and drivers in Bangladesh. At Uber we have the unique opportunity to combine global technological excellence and local knowledge and insight to provide convenient mobility options in our cities.
“We are thrilled to launch our 3rd city in Bangladesh, Sylhet, and be able to provide mobility options and flexible income opportunities to the people of Sylhet. UberMOTO has proven to be the most efficient way to get around with and average speed of 16 - 17 km/h vs 11-12 km/h on cars. UberMOTO will provide a faster and more convenient option for connectivity in the city,” he said.
