Meat sellers defy DSCC

The traders are selling meats at their own whims.Breaking their own promises made to the city father, meat sellers in the capital sold meats at Tk 20 to Tk 70 more than the price fixed by the city corporation.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) authorities fixed the price meat for the month of Ramadan after consulting the traders. But as apprehended earlier by some, meat was not sold at the set price anywhere in the capital on the very first day of the holy month.
The traders are selling meats at their own whims, triggering discomfiture among the city dwellers.
DNCC authorities, however, did not hold any meeting with the meat traders, saying meat price in their area would be the same fixed by DSCC.
On Monday last, DSCC mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon fixed the beef price at Tk 450 after consulting the traders while the price of buffalo meet was fixed at Tk 420. DSCC fixed price of nanny goat mutton at Tk 600, and billy goat mutton at Tk 720.
On Friday morning, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, meat was being sold at Tk 500 at Kazibari area in Sou8th Banasree.
In reply to a query over city corporation-fixed price, meat seller Rafiqul Islam told the Bangla Tribune, “Our cow is costly; we would face loss if we sell at the fixed price.”
In reply to the same query, meat seller Radiq Molla of Shajahanpur area under DNCC, said, “It is not possible to sell meat at the price fixed by city corporation. Moreover, we did not get any instruction.”
“We will not sell meat at less than Tk 480,” he added.
