Stocks end week lower

However, the market turnover and trade volume increased at the DSE as the turnover rose to Tk 10.12 billion from the Wednesday’s (Jan 16) Tk 10 billion while trade volume to 287.6 billion shares from previous session’s 256.2 billion shares.
The broad DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 13.91 points down at 5,825.57. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 12.91points down at 1,309.80 and with 7.78 points down at 2009.49 respectively.
At the DSE, losers outnumbered the losers on day’s trading as 118 securities out of the day’s 346 gained against 196 losing issues.
The five major gaining issues were Bay Leasing, Sonarbangla Insurance, Premier Leasing, Sandhani Insurance and Eastern Insurance. Imam Button, Savar Refractories, Meghna Condensed Milk, Meghna Pet and Shyampur Sugar were the five major losing companies.
In the port city of Chattogram, the CSE closed the week lower with its All Share Price Index – CASPI – shedding 41.83 points to close at 17,858.39.
The losers dominated the day’s trading as 156 issues closed down against 98 gaining issues at the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 16.4 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 499.3 million in turnover.
