Over 2 million taxpayers filed returns this year

Taxpayers submitting tax returns at a tax circle office in the capital, as the last date for return submission for individual taxpayers ends on Sunday (Dec 2).Over 2 million taxpayers have filed income tax returns in 2018 amounting Tk 222.64 billion in revenue to the government exchequer, says National Board of Revenue.
“As many as 2,006,715 people and companies submitted tax returns between December of 2018 and 2017 – a 14 percent up from the previous year,” NBR member Ziauddin Mahmud told a media briefing in the city on Monday (Dec 3).
“Of them, 315,105 people sought time extension to complete all formalities,” he said.
As many as 1,835,190 people filed income tax returns in 2017.
The figures came a day after the NRB’s deadline to submit income tax returns for 2018 ended on Sunday (Dec 1).
Mahmud said, “Taxpayers contributed Tk 222.64 billion to the government exchequer in 2018 – a 12.38 percent up from the previous year.
“The government earned Tk 198.10 billion in revenue from tax return submission in 2017,” said Mahmud, who heads the NBR’s tax administration and human resources management.
