Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) will be excavating gas wells in Jamalpur and Shariatpur. Land acquisition has already begun in Jamalpur.
BAPEX has said that following a survey, they are hopeful of finding new gas reserves.
The well in Jamalpur is in Nitantapur village of Jorakhali union.
In Shariatpur, survey area covered 3,000 line kilometre area.
In addition to appointing Sinopack of China, Bapex has also carried out two dimensional survey in the possible blocks.
BAPEX will carry out work till June of next year.
Professor Badrul Imam of the department of geology of Dhaka University, says: “this work is technically very complex. Sylhet region has the highest potential in providing gas reserves.”
Now we see opportunities in Bhola, Barishal and Shariatpur, he added.
