Biman gets its first Dreamliner

The aircraft landed at the Shahjalal International Airport at 5:19pm when water cannons were blown to welcome it.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is considered to have the latest state of art technology in the global aviation industry, will not only ensure a comfortable journey but also have new technologies.
On Wednesday, a Biman Bangladesh delegation led by its Chairman Enamul Bari went to the US to receive the aircraft.
The aircraft operated by Boeing pilots Richard M Denton and Charlie Christensen, and Biman pilots Fazal and Anita Rahman landed Dhaka following a non-stop 14 and half hours flying from the US city of Seattle.
Biman Chairman Bari said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who will inaugurate the first commercial flight operated by the plane on Sep 1, has chosen the name ‘Akash Beena’ for the first Dreamliner 787-8 of the fleet.
With the arrival of the Dreamliner, Biman’s fleet now has 15 aircrafts. “The inclusion of Dreamliner is a milestone for Biman. It will help the national carrier to compete with other airlines,” said Biman’s Managing Director and CEO SM Mosaddiq Ahmed.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ first Boeing Dreamliner 787-8The aircraft will be initially used to operate flights to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, said Biman’s General Manager (Public Relations) Shakil Meraj.
“The maiden commercial flight will take place on the night of Sep 1, when it will fly for Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a $2.1 billion deal with Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft.
So far, four new Boeing 777-300 and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft were commissioned while the first one of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to be reaching here on Sunday.
The Boeing 787-8, designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient, has a total of 271 seats with 24 in business class and 247 in economy class.
It will provide its passengers with wifi services at a height of 43,000 feet, allowing passengers to browse the internet or connect with their friends and family at any end of the world.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines started its operation on Mar 4, 1972, with a Dhaka-London flight through a leased aircraft.
Two days later, on Mar 7, it started operating domestic flights to Sylhet and Chittagong.
